Club Outing at Paterson Museum and Great Falls
Sep 26, 2023 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Today's meeting will not be at La Reggia. We will be visiting the Paterson Museum, run by Metro Club Rotarian Jack DeStefano. Jack will take us on a tour of the museum, featuring exhibits showing Paterson as the first Industrial Center in the U.S. It was here, in America's first planned industrial city, that the Industrial Revolution got a foothold in the New World. Centered around the Great Falls of the Passaic River, Paterson pioneered methods for harnessing water power for industrial use,  enabling the young United States to become an economic player on the world stage.

There is also a Lou Costello exhibit, and the current special exhibit about New Jersey Diners; after all, we are known as the Diner State.

We will then walk across the street to visit the Paterson Great Falls, which is a National Park. If you have never seen the Falls, you will want to join us on September 26.

There is no cost for this meeting. If you are interested in having lunch, bring your own sandwich and beverage. Jack will have the conference room available for us.

Please let us know if you are coming no later than our meeting on Tuesday, September 19.

Plan on meeting in the parking lot at La Reggia at 11am. We can leave in groups so we don't have to take so many cars, but feel free to drive yourself if you like. We will leave no later than 11:15.

Jack is also the Chair of Gift of Life, and I'm sure he will tell us about his recent mission in Bolivia with his wife Yolanda.

Rotary Club of Secaucus

Rotary International's theme for 2023-2024 is "Create Hope in the World", and The Rotary Club of Secaucus is proud to be part of the 1.4 million Rotarians in over 46,000 clubs in 200 countries worldwide who make a difference every day in the lives of children, adults, and those in need in our communities and across the globe. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies, and protect the environment under the motto "Service Above Self". You can be a part of that by joining your local Rotary club.

Rotary's involvement in polio eradication began in 1979 with a five-year commitment to provide and help deliver polio vaccine to six million children of the Philippines. Following similar commitments in other countries, in the early 80's Rotary started planning for the most ambitious program in its history — to immunize all of the world's children against polio, and in 1985 PolioPlus was born. Since then, Rotary’s dedication to the global eradication of polio has remained constant. This year, 2023, marks the 38th anniversary of PolioPlus and more than three decades of progress and challenges the program has faced. But through the efforts of Rotary, over 99 percent of the world’s population lives in regions certified polio-free.

The goal of eradication is closer than ever.
